About Me
Judy and Chance
Positively Pet Partners LLC was founded in March 2013 by Certified Dog Trainer, Judy Tarasek. Prior to becoming a dog trainer, Judy, a lifelong animal lover, was employed in Information Technology for over 30 years. While employed in this industry, Judy adopted and fostered shelter dogs and cats as well as having several of her own pets for over 35 years. After she was downsized yet again, she decided to pursue her passion, leave Corporate America and become a Positive Reinforcement Dog Trainer.

Judy started volunteering at the local municipal shelter in December 2011, socializing and training all breeds of dogs. She interned at Bideawee in Westhampton, NY for 6 months, under the head trainer and behaviorist who has been there close to twenty years. She also volunteered at Bideawee when time permitted.

Judy was certified as a Positive Reinforcement Dog Trainer in December 2012 by Animal Behavior College which follows the same curriculum as the Knowledge Assessed Certification Program. She is a member of The Association of Professional Dog Trainers and is currently studying to becoming a C.L.A.S.S. evaluator which stands for Canine Life and Social Skills. Developed by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, this certification is based on input from both dog owners and non-dog owners, shelter workers, and professional dog trainers.'My Dog Has C.L.A.S.S.' benefits pet owners, dogs, and everyone in the community! This will allow her to effectively evaluate both shelter and rescue dogs and recommend training programs which will help them find forever homes. She is also working with one of her own dogs towards Good Canine Citizenship Certification which will eventually lead to him becoming a therapy dog.

Judy also works with Animal Behavior College as a Mentor Trainer. She is responsible for working with Student Dog Trainers during their externship. During the externship Judy works with each student "hands on" to coach them in the real world of dog training, as well as assess their skill set. The externship is an important part of the path towards becoming a certified dog trainer, and Judy takes her mentorship duties very seriously. She is dedicated to promoting the idea of positive reinforcement dog training. Positive reinforcement training uses praise and food/treats to reward your dog for performing a desirable behavior, ie, doing something you want him to do. Because the reward makes him more likely to repeat the behavior, positive reinforcement is one of the most powerful tools for shaping and/or changing your dog's behavior. Punishment techniques only serve to frighten or stress a dog and do not develop trust between you and your dog. That is why the only techniques I use involve reward based training.

Judy and Bonnie
Judy is also a member of American Pet Professionals, a professional organization made up of dog trainers, veterinarians, groomers, pet store owners, rescue organizations, pet sitters, dog walkers, pet supply manufacturers, and other individuals in the pet industry. She keeps up on the latest trends in the pet industry so she can advise her clients and answer their questions, and if needed, be able to refer them to a reliable professional that can serve their pets needs.

Judy continues to take classes and keep up on the latest positive reinforcement training techniques and animal behavior research so she can bring the most up to date training methods to her clients and their dogs.
